I was totally out of food tonight. I made it about 3/4 mile before I could feel the blood sugar getting lower and lower. So I pushed through a lot of walking just to burn some calories since I know I’m gonna overeat tomorrow. Add in the nasty cold I have and the treadmill and this workout totally sucked!

I got this video for Christmas. My only hope was that it wasn’t at all like P90X Yoga! I actually wanted to have some stress relief and flexibility improvement. I liked it! I only did the first half but it had nearly all new moves for me. It is fun to do and not so hard that it is stressful. The 2nd half is supposedly more challenging, so I’ll have to try that on another day.

What are your New Year’s resolutions regarding fitness and health?
I have a couple I am considering:
- 1000 miles logged for the year - running + walking
- 2:24:00 at the 2010 KY Derby Mini Marathon
- Decrease my body fat percentage by 5%
- Complete my first full Marathon

I love my Brooks Radius shoes. In fact, I’ve now had 3 different models of shoes and they are the only ones that I like. The problem is that on longer runs, they are too small and tear into the ends of my toes. So I want to get a bigger size, but it looks as though they don’t make them anymore. Does anyone know if there is a next generation of this shoe from Brooks?
I did their shoe finder and it came back with the Trance 9 and the Adrenaline GTS 10 as suitable for high arches and medium build. Does anyone know anything about those shoes? I will probably venture to the running store this week and see if they have either of those to try. I just wish I could find the Radius somewhere so I wouldn’t have to try yet another shoe.

I am running the Disney Marathon in 3 weeks and my last 4 long runs (17,19,21,15) have caused my legs to hurt something awful. It seems to be a time thing because if I run slower, it happens at the 11 mile mark and if I run faster it happens at the 13-14 mile mark. It happens if I take regular walk breaks or if I don’t walk at all. It is excruciating, but it isn’t specific to one muscle or one leg. It starts in both hips and in the next 15 minutes, my entire leg will start hurting. If I continue on, it just continues to get worse and worse. If I walk or stand still, they don’t hurt as much, but I can still feel pain in the front of my quads and knees, and my feet.
I have tried getting better sports drinks with both electrolytes and protein in them. I have tried different shoes, orthotics, and adding bananas and Ensure into my diet. I have even been eating poultry just in case my vegetarian diet was causing it. About an hour after I run, my legs are completely back to normal with just some light soreness. I also notice some pain in my arms, shoulders, and chest too if I push on them, but I don’t know if that is related.
I had decided that the most likely cause was that the muscles are breaking down and that’s why both legs hurt all over at the same point, but I don’t really know. I had read that ingesting more carbs and getting a sports drink with protein in it could help with breakdown, but it didn’t seem to help yesterday. If the muscles are breaking down, I’m not sure it is safe for me to push through the pain for 10-15 more miles or to take Advil to drown it out so I can finish.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on what might be causing this and how to avoid it? I would like to see a sports medicine doctor, but I don’t have a regular one and since it’s the holidays, I doubt I could get an appointment before the marathon.

It was supposed to be 20, but my legs were so sore and my knees felt like they might be injured, so I stopped early. Figured it was better to be short and uninjured, than at 20 and injured. I’m not too disappointed since I’ve done 19 and 21 miles before this one. Seeing as I just want to finish the race, I feel I am ready enough!
I am making a trip to my doctor the week before the marathon to find out what I should do about the soreness. Hopefully he can reccommend something to do during the race so I don’t have to run half of it on painfully sore legs. Also gonna get some new shoes fitted at the running store. Maybe some new cushioning will help out as well.
