Rodes City Run 10k

This is my favorite race. Maybe it is because I seem to be able to push myself here and get PRs. It starts in front of Louisville’s luxurious Brown Hotel, goes through a beautiful course with rolling hills and lots to see, and finishes in Waterfront Park on the Ohio River.

My legs felt tired and heavy for the first half. Thinking I need to warm up for races more as I have felt tired for the first 3 miles of my last 3 races. The 10-miler is coming up in 2 weeks, so I will try a good 20 minute warm up when I get there.

Cherokee Park

Went to Seneca to run on flat surfaces, but it was so crowded I ended up at mega-hilly Cherokee park instead.  Might as well have just run near my house.

Anyway, finished up about 5 miles.  Had one bad hamstring for the run.  I’m Adviling today to hopefully get it back in gear for tomorrows 10k race.

Nasonex

Went back to using my Nasonex this week, and what do you know, I can breathe again.  I don’t know why I have such terrible allergies but I guess I am doomed to a life of neti pots, antihistamines, and pseudophedrine.

This morning I was down another pound.  Yay!  I’ve lost 7lbs since this time last  year.  Hoping to make it 10 by the miniMarathon on April 24th.

I Can’t Breathe!

I don’t know if it is just bad allergies or if I have officially developed chronic bronchitis, but I cannot breath well at all and it is getting worse.  It’s a very constricted feeling.  And if I push myself hard, I sometimes start to panic that I’m not gonna be able to catch my breath and I might pass out.

Anyway, I already have an Albuterol inhaler and a daily allergy medication.  I somewhat suspect the allergy medication because it has 4 drying agents in it and maybe it is drying all that mucus in my lungs and leaving it there.

Just for fun, I am gonna take 3-4 days of Mucinex-D instead of my allergy medication and see if that helps clear out it.  If that doesn’t work, I am gonna go find out what I’m allergic to and maybe I can work from there.  Darn you, Ohio Valley!

5 miles

I think I might be getting faster finally, but I am experiencing some tired legs.  Tomorrow I’m gonna try to have more calories prior to the run and see what difference it makes.

I was trying out Zyrtec-D today instead of my regular allergy medicine.  It didn’t work for the running.  There was so much crap draining out of my head and so much chest congestion that I had a hard time breathing.  Plus, the entire time I was running my nose was running faster!

Anyway, tomorrow I’m gonna try the neti pot in addition to the Zyrtec-D and see if anything different happens.  Otherwise, back to Stahist on Thursday.

Anthem 5k

My chip time was 32:01, but I think I must have weaved in and out of traffic so much the race was actually closer to 3.2 miles long.  The Garmin hit the distance alert before the finish line.

I was aiming for 31 minutes, but just couldn’t pull it off.  However, I am pretty happy with shaving a full minute off of my PR!

Triple Crown of Louisville

Race 1 is this weekend - the Anthem 5k.  I have a goal of 31 which is just 2 minutes faster than last year :)

Looking forward to the 2nd race, the Rodes City Run 10k.  Had a huge negative split there last year.  Averaged 12:30/mile for the 1st half, 9:30/mile the 2nd half!  I’ve never managed 9:30/mile since.

Blah!

Had a big dinner and it didn’t like me.  Tried to squeeze out my 4 miles but at the 2 mile mark really felt like I might hurl.  Tons of stomach issues and bad heartburn.
